Why carpet sourcing ?
In textile industry, almost all the big garment retailers one way or another they are working with sourcing companies or they hire their own sourcing agents. We are talking here billions of billions US dollars. They don't have patience for mistake. They need to catch the fashion and the market on time. They don't want to make big stock. The goods must reach them on time constantly. And it is sure not enough ! The products must be as same as their orders, they can not accept flawed products. So the flawed products must be separated, they don't want to see them ! Even packing is very important. the packing must be done according to their storage and distrubuting system. This is the only way they can distunguish them and they know which good is going where.
I have not mentioned the price,yet ! because these are more important then the price. They need to get something that they can sell. So the price is not important? of course important. But it is the last step. They need to find companies who can supply the goods in perfect order and give them the best price.
 
I talked about the garment retailers ! Because those companies are working with many sourcing companies/agents/inspectors.. In the market we all know about that... But how about the carpet retailers...?
The carpet business have 2 different customers type. First, carpet wholesalers : They are professionalized in carpet wholesale some also have retail shops next to wholesaling.
Even they are so focused on carpet, they don't have carpet sourcing agent in professional meaning ( except few of them).
Genarally they hire someone to purchasing department next to their Office. And 2-3 times a year they send them to manufacturers in order to make orders. These purchasing people they make the orders and follow up them. But not always like this. many big wholesalers are running their father's or relative's business. So they don't hire any purchasing person. They follow up their business by visiting the manufactuers and attending the fairs.
Second , big retailers : such as Ikea, Walmart.. they sell carpet but they sell thousands of different prodcuts next to carpet. They don't separate carpet division.
What should we think ? Is the carpet business that easy to follow up everything?
 What I belive it is not. Think about when you say carpet, you can think about thousands of different qualities. For example; 13mm,380.000points/sqm,%100 polypropylene,2500gr/sqm is one quality. 10mm, 400.000points/sqm,%100 polypropylene, 2700gr/sqm is another quality. 11mm, 525.000points/sqm,%90 acrylic,%10polypropylene, 3150gr/sqm is another. 50mm,96.000points/sqm, %50 polyester,%20malaidori,%30 butterfly,3300gr/sqm is another......we can make thousands of different qualities.
When you decide the quality is that enough ?
Absoulatly no. You have to chose the designs which suits to your market. If you can find new designs before your competitor you have one step away.
You chose your quality and your design. Now you have to chose your colours. In middle east market , the customer prefers at least 6 different background for each design. And the colours must suit your market. For example your market's Brown is not same as other's market's brown..
It is still not finished. If you buy area rugs,You need to decide your sizes which must fill the 4 mt or 5 mt loom. otherwise the manufacturer may not except your order. Generally customers ask for 10 - 15  different sizes. And don't forget the design's each size must be drawn ! In manufacturing of carpet the design's one size can not apply to all the sizes. It is very important! If you have 12 sizes and you contorolled one size. It doesn't mean that other sizes are same. For example you have "a rose" figure on your design and it is red colour. It is possible that this figure is red in 11 sizes but pink in 1 size !
It is not finished. You may want from  the manufacturer use your label , your barcode system,your  packing system, your shipment procedure...etc.
And the supplier must ship the carpets to you on the agreed delivery date. Otherwise your business might effect negatively.
Now we came to price ! You want the manufacturer supply you according to your purchasing and distrubuting system with the best price !
Now I assume you did all of them and found a supplier with the best price. You need to be sure that the supplier follow all of your special precedures accuratly..
You spent too much effort and time .Now I assume everything went well.. You got the best price and best service and the carpets were delivered on time. And there are no mistakes on the carpet.
Can you go to you bed and sleep comfortably ?
Yes you can if you can catch the market constantly. Because you need to follow the market Daily. What we talked above is at least 3 months story if you are in USA and buying it from Asia. Even if you are in asia and buying it from asia needs minumum 2 months. During these time you can not just waiting your one order. You must keep watching the market and new qualities.
The best way is setting up your own sourcing system..
